This model describes a pressure relief valve with lumped volumes. The resistance depends on the pressure difference:

 

dp = pa.p - pb.p

dp < pclosed => valve closed, only leakage: pa.phi = pb.phi = dp * GLeak

pclosed < dp < popen => working range, i. e. valve partially opened

popen < dp => valve wide open: pa.phi = pb.phi = dp * GOpen
